Analysis Report on China Power Cable Industry

Power cable is one of the five product categories of wire & cable industry. In recent years, Chinese economy keeps high development speed, making the demand for electric power increase greatly. Therefore, power cable industry meets a great development opportunity. Currently, there are over 5,000 wire and cable manufacturers of various types, among them, over 3,000 can produce power cables of over 10 series, 200 varieties and over 1,000 specifications with the production capability of 7.3 million km. The highest voltage grade is 500kV, and satisfaction rate is over 95%. Since 2003, the manufacturing cost of power cable increased constantly because of rapid rise in the price of copper. Thus medium and small enterprise has to reduce the order and the order began to transfer to large enterprises, but the industry concentration is still very low. Since Chinese reform and opening-up policy, Chinese power cable industry developed rapidly but product quality is still low. At present, only 30% cable products reached international level and could compete with international products, the other 70% are in urgent need to enhance product level and grade. According to the statistics analysis on the development of China power cable industry in 2003-2005, it is concluded that its development speed is rapid. In 2005, the total output reached 7.3 million km and the growth rate reached 55.63%. Based on the statistics of relevant industry, the output of power cable in 2003 was 3.02 million km. Guangdong province, took the lead with 23.35%, followed by Hebei province with 21.05%. The annual growth rate of vestment into grid construction will be 20%. During the 11th Five-year Plan, State Grid's key developments include the construction of super-high voltage grid, cross-regional truck grid and urban grid in major cities. |
